Booking Live Music for a Wedding - The practical stuff
It's not something you might have done before or will need to do ever again, so here's our five top tips for booking live musicians for your wedding. 1. So it's a good idea to hear the musicians live. Usually a band will be happy to have you along when they play at another event and you might be wowed or decide to go for something else but if you have time it's a good idea. If you are looking for musicians for your ceremony or reception it's a good idea to meet with them and go over your ideas for the big day. They may have suggestions for pieces you've never heard for your ceremony. 2. It may be something that many people overlook, but check if your musicians have PLI insurance, Public Liability Insurance. In our experience, most venues require this from musicians that play at their venues and it just makes life easier if your favourite tipsy auntie decides to topple into a poor unsuspecting musician. 3. Keep it simple! Choose the pieces that are special to you as a couple. Most musicians are happy to play something they might not be playing at the average wedding ceremony. It's your day! 4. Check the logistics! When will they arrive? How long does it take to set up and be ready before guests arrive? Is there access for unloading equipment nearby and parking? Let them know the details but they should ask. 5. Last but not least, musicians are unique and wonderful creatures, so don't forget to make sure they are fed, watered and looked after on the day. It definitely contributes to them feeling comfortable and relaxed, which makes your day better too.
It's not an exhaustive list but these are things that we encounter regularly as musicians. We hope it helps you.
